How many times have you shied away from doing things you really want to do but decide not to do it because you don’t want to get called uppity, or bougie. We don’t want to feel like we have to explain where we got the extra funds to pamper ourselves. Encourage them to do the same. If they explain that they don’t have the money then encourage them to save up for it. I’ve convinced myself that I’m not just on this earth to work and pay bills!
It wasn’t until I graduated college, got my first grown up job, and met other grown black women that indulged in things that I considered a luxury growing up. It’s more than just about getting your hair and nails done. Taking time out to indulge in a new book, going out of the country to resorts, or just taking vacations period.
One thing that I’ve done that I consider a luxury was hiring a company to clean my house on a bi-weekly basis. I’m not going to lie, it took me a while to make the appointment because that's just not how I was brought up. I was wanting to get a cleaning person before Quad was even thought about. Times are different and we’re just moving at a much faster pace to where it is hard for me to keep up with things.
Let me tell you it was a great feeling coming home to a clean house after a long day at work! I also feel like it teaches you discipline and to put shit back where it belongs. I paid money to get my house clean and I want to keep it like that as long as I can lol.
Luxury looks different to everyone. It could be enjoying your favorite cup of coffee in peace, redecorating your home, or being able to journal in a peaceful location, it doesn’t necessarily have to have an expensive price tag.
Note you have to take care of yourself to take care of others. If you work hard, you deserve to reap the benefits of treating yourself. If you’ve really thought about the year 2020, you’ve realized time is of the essence. So go ahead and partake in things that are going to be good for your mental health.
